CHEVROLET SPONSORING NEW OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD DUBAI TV REALITY SHOW, ASTRONAUTS
Exploring new frontiers is a huge part of Chevrolet’s DNA and, taking this to the next level, the brand is sponsoring Dubai TV’s new reality series, Astronauts. The 10-episode reality TV show, debuts today and follows 12 Arab men and women as they compete to take on the most difficult job in the universe: becoming an astronaut. Vehicles from Chevrolet’s award-winning line-up will be used throughout the show’s challenges as contestants train to move through the selection process.
With General Motors’ long standing history of space exploration, Chevrolet’s Astronauts sponsorship further cements the business’ heritage in this field. When US President John F Kennedy set the brave goal to land a man on the moon in 1961, NASA approached General Motors to build the Lunar Rover. Not only did General Motors accomplish the task for man’s fourth mission to the moon, it did so with flying colors.
The Apollo 11 mission wasn’t just a defining moment for mankind, but also for General Motors as it opened up the world of space exploration and discovering what lies in the great beyond. Celebrating the bravery of the first astronauts, Chevrolet gifted them each a brand new Corvette: a proud, all-American, sleek sports car that perfectly fit the astronauts’ bold and fearless personas. This innovative and daring spirit is still evident through every one of Chevrolet’s models on the road today.
Kelly MacDonald, Chief Marketing Officer, General Motors Africa and Middle East, said: “Our Astronauts partnership with Dubai TV is a way for us to continue our bond to space exploration which began decades ago. From the Bolt EV with its market leading driving range to the physics-defying pace of the new Corvette ZR1, Chevrolet has mastered the use of technology to deliver exceptional performance be it on the road, in the great outdoors or on the track.”
She continued: “Looking back, the story of space exploration began right here in the Middle East in the 8th century when Arab scientists paved the way for space science and astronomy. Today, in the 21st century, the region is still taking steps to deliver great achievements in this area looking at His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minster of the UAE, who has a vision to see the UAE ranked among the top countries in the space industry by reaching Mars by 2021 and building the first settlement there by 2117. We are extremely proud to support our visionary leadership’s ambitions through our collaboration with Dubai TV’s Astronauts show, further building the region’s legacy and helping Arabs reach new heights in space.”
The Astronauts reality show will air every Sunday at 10pm (UAE time) on Dubai TV and every Wednesday at 10pm (UAE time) on Dubai One.
